After gods killed the great giant Ymir, they created the myth out of his body of all existing things. The world ash Yggdrasil is the first tree to grow. It is the largest and most magnificent tree in the world. Its branches extend across all nine worlds and extend across the sky. An eagle without a name sits in the branches, between its eyes is a hawk called Vedrfölnir. Yggdrasil has three large roots, one of which grows to Jötunheim, the land of the giants, where Mimir's fountain is also located. The other root leads to Niflheim to the source Hvergelmir, where the dragon Nidhöggr gnaws at it. The third root is found near Asgard.
