The Latin cross resembles, in shape, the human form with outstretched arms. The crossbar is shorter than the longitudinal bar and crosses the longitudinal bar above the middle. This shape is the most common cross shape in Christian space. It is also called the cross of passion or suffering because it is believed that Jesus was struck on a similar cross. It also represents a connection between heaven and earth, spirit and matter, soul and body as well as the male and the female.
