The term crucifix comes from Latin (cruci fixus) which means: "tacked to the cross". The first depictions of the crucifix depict Jesus as the victor and conqueror of death. He is “tacked” upright to the cross, is alive and has mostly opened his eyes. He often wears a crown or glory and in some cases even shoes.
