The moon, luna in Latin, is the only natural satellite on earth. It circles around this as well as around the sun. In addition to the sun, it is the most powerful celestial body for the earth. Due to its gravity in relative proximity to the earth, it influences the water conditions in the oceans, so that ebb and flow alternate rhythmically. Plants, animals and people are also under the influence of the moon. In mythology, the moon is seen in all cultures as a female counterpart to the sun god. Astrologically, the moon is a symbol for the feminine, the receptive, the inwardness and the unconscious, but also for the transient and constant change.
